Here are the very first weavings produced on our new jacquard loom! For students in their second year of study, this was their first opportunity to weave on such a loom. Although the advanced certificate students have had some previous experience, in past years they had to go off campus to weave jacquard. The department’s new aquisition is a much-welcomed convenience to say the least!
The first year students presented their embroidery sampler projects today. Project criteria was that the sampler must be a narrative of self, and must include both text and a date. Here are the latest projects from 3D and Mixed Media – The ‘Empty Dress’ projects. Students crafted 3D objects that comment abouts about relationship between an individual and the outside world. The first year students created these fabulous portraits using reverse applique techniques with hand-dyed fabrics! The latest projects in Surface Design 285/385 demonstated several of the techniques students have learned so far this semester: bookmaking, paper making, silk fusion, joomchi, kozo, and devore. The results were so diverse and absolutely stunning! |
